Pietrasanta is the cultural heart of Versilia thanks to the great artisan tradition kept alive in the laboratories and ateliers of the area, in companies specializing in the artistic mosaic sector and in numerous art foundries and the fertile artistic context has acted as a catalyst for numerous Italian artists and foreigners, who have promoted Pietrasanta to "land of choice" for their work, contributing in turn with works and donations to urban furniture: among others, Fernando Boterò, the Spanish artist whose pot-bellied Warrior stands guard at the entrance to the village.
What to visit in Pietrasanta The visit of Pietrasanta starts from the fortress of Sala that dominates the Piazza del Duomo on which overlook the main monuments of the city: the Duomo with its red bell tower, the Moroni palace, the golden facade of Sant'Agostino, the Torre delle Ore.
The birthplace of Giosue Carducci The house where the poet Giosue Carducci was born in 1835 rises a few kilometers from Pietrasanta, in the Valdicastello hamlet. Carducci, who moved from Pietrasanta with his family when he was only three years old, still remained tied to his native land, repeatedly remembered in his verses.
The museum of sketches The Museo dei Bozzetti is the concrete testimony of the consolidated role assumed by Pietrasanta and Versilia as an international point of reference for those who work in this artistic field. Housed in the monumental complex of S.Agostino, the Museum, original and unique, was established in 1984. The sketches (in reduced scale) and the models (in real dimensions) represent the original idea before the translation into finished work. Made of the most disparate materials (plaster, wood, terracotta, paper, etc.), their dimensions vary from a few centimeters to over seven meters and several tons of weight.
